Research Overview
Overview: Kisspeptin is a family of neuropeptides widely used in laboratory environments to study regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. It binds to KISS1R (GPR54) receptors on hypothalamic GnRH neurons, initiating the G±q/11-PLC² signaling cascade, which triggers GnRH release. Forms Commonly Studied Kisspeptin-54 (full-length peptide; longer half-life) Kisspeptin-10 (shorter fragment; rapid onset) Research interest includes pharmacokinetics, receptor activity, and downstream signaling effects in both in vitro and animal models.
Research Findings
Neuroendocrine Regulation GnRH Pathway Activation: Kisspeptin is a key upstream regulator of GnRH neurons and is widely used to study pulsatile GnRH release (Animal Study).
HPG Axis Modeling LH/FSH Release: Kisspeptin stimulation of KISS1R is used to evaluate LH and FSH secretion patterns and downstream reproductive signaling (Lab Study).
Puberty-Onset Mechanisms Developmental Timing Models: Kisspeptin is used to investigate the timing and regulation of pubertal development and neuroendocrine maturation (Animal/Translational Research).
